Me too buddy.Well folks, I'll be moving back to school for my final year/Mimi gets credit for giving the idea for today's post.

NOOOOOOOOOO!!!
Typically I don't like the thought of going back. It's because of the uncertainty what the days will encompass + what will take up the majority of my time. Last spring semester I had a lot of classes I didn't find interesting and as a result thought it was terrible. Now don't get me wrong. The professors were great people. However, the material itself was......sucking.
Additionally over my winter break and when the previous summer winded down, I had been ridiculously productive as opposed to this summer where I can't point out any accomplishments I feel good about.
This is where I need to take action. Although I'll be in a frantic craze since I don't have post-grad plans down yet, I feel the need to write out goals or behaviors I need to stick to.
I did choose some training-related ones, which if you forgot were:

I did choose some training-related ones, which if you forgot were:
1) Front squat 200lbs or more for 1RM.
2) Deadlift more than double body weight. (been 1 1/2 years since I last tried)
3) Do 1 dragon flag.
But if there's anything I've learned through various figures throughout history it's to be balanced. I have a few here and there goals, but the main ones are:
1) Draw: I liked doing it as a kid and I still do, but unfortunately I don't sit down and take the time to try anything serious. When a project or task necessitates me to draw it takes a while to complete, but I love seeing the finished piece.I had other things in mind, but if I list too many I'm sure I won't do any of them from the overload.
I'm going to make it a 10 minutes a day thing so just enough time to be productive, but it doesn't take a huge portion of the day.
2) Read: I hated reading from elementary school to high school, but when I finally did decide to give it a go I was terrible. I read slow, couldn't concentrate, and it was difficult. I attribute this to a few lame experiences I had, but that's for another day.
Given time I improved, but again setting aside a moment to do any when school is in session seems impossible. I'll be sure to read 5 pages from any book everyday. Giving time would sound better, but sometimes - well a lot really - my mind wanders away somewhere.
3) Walk: I love to walk. Often you can find me pacing back and forth for no apparent reason. It tends to help me think, but it's also calming.
10 minutes every morning after breakfast.
It's an odd feeling since I'm not aware of other kids at school who are into these kind of things - like personal development - instead of "hey let's go party and by party I mean drink ourselves silly!" (I don't drink if I haven't mentioned it)
But now what?
For me? Keep on doing what I do.
Lift and live!
Have a good weekend everyone.
(This is one of the rare instances I have a post about myself.)

Hey, great post!
ReplyDeleteIt's funny -- your goals are very similar to mine! I'm trying to get back into drawing and reading too. See, I was always a very fast reader, until I got more into journalism and analayzing literature. It killed me reading speed. So I'm trying to get it back.
Anyway, good luck! Need anyone to commiserate about finals/midterms/term papers with, drop me a note.
Will do Mimi! Assuming I don't pass out from all the stress.
ReplyDeleteI actually like this post, I've been reading your blog for a few weeks but I felt compelled to comment now that you have opened up a bit. Im trying to read more too, but I'm having trouble concentrating. But there are so many books out there on my "to read" list.
ReplyDeleteGood luck, and dont forget to breath...cliche but deep breaths help with stress (I have to say that cause I'm a yoga instructor)
Thank you Eden! I think we all have trouble concentrating on reading so no worries.
ReplyDeleteI'll definitely be mindful to take deep breathes. Hopefully it's not so bad where I'm doing them the entire day.
Very nice goals, and good luck with them! I'm sure you'll reach them all. I'm not too fond of getting back into school...but it's a necessary evil.
ReplyDeleteThanks Christine.
ReplyDeleteRoughly 1 week in and it's been alright so far, but working on the non-exercise activities prove to be very relaxing.
